Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 pro-rata, dependant on experience 
Contract: 12 months fixed term 
Hours: Part Time, 21 hours per week. Standard working hours 3 days per week, 9am – 5pm

Blue Marine's Mission

Blue Marine Foundation seeks to protect and restore life in the ocean. Our mission is to see at least 30 per cent of the ocean protected by 2030 and the whole ocean sustainably managed. We support low-impact fishing and equitable use of the ocean and address overfishing – one of the world’s biggest environmental challenges.

The Role

Blue Marine is Europe’s biggest ocean conservation charity, whose aim is to protect and restore life in the ocean. This role will lead communications for the educational division of Blue Marine, Blue Education. 
Blue Education develops innovative materials and aims to inspire all generations, especially young people, about the need to protect and restore the ocean to health. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating compelling social media/ educational content that will inspire thousands of young people about the need to protect the ocean.  

Responsibilities:
  • Design and manage the Blue Education digital channels (TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn etc) to maximise engagement from educators.
  • Deliver compelling social content with a strong focus on platform-native video content to reach thousands of students worldwide. 
  • Stay informed about developments in education policy, curriculum updates and pedagogical best practice, using insights to strengthen programme communications.
  • Stay up to date with shortform (TikTok, Reels, Shorts) trends, sounds and audience insights.
  • Support the Blue Education team and partners to deliver communications strategy for the programme. 
  • Attend fieldtrips, school visits and events to capture content. 
  • Create and manage an asset bank of imagery and videos throughout all partner activities.
  • Establish and manage a monitoring system to facilitate frequent reporting on reach and audience data.
  • Support the Digital Content Manager to maximise use of influencers and ambassadors and spokespeople; ensuring high engagement levels which helps to drive the charities mission. 

This list is not exhaustive, and the selected candidate will be required to undertake other relevant tasks.

Skills and experience required

  • Degree‑level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience working in formal or informal education settings.
  • Strong track record in social‑first content capture and short‑form video (TikTok, Reels, Shorts).
  • Demonstrated success delivering high‑performing social media content, with a solid grasp of algorithms and analytics.
  • Confident using tools such as Canva, Later, Adobe Suite and CapCut.
  • Understanding of ocean conservation, climate education, ocean science and environmental communication.
  • Excellent writing, editing, design and proof‑reading skills.
  • Experience in a comparable role; proactive, organised and able to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong team player with clear, confident, creative communication skills at all levels.
